ACA Apprentice receives Bert Evans Scholarship

Blake started his plumbing apprenticeship with ACA in Bathurst, NSW in January of this year.

The sole financial provider for his family, Blake has a young daughter and another on the way. Dedicated to supporting his family and completing his plumbing apprenticeship, Blake moved from Orange to Bathurst earlier this year to be closer to his workplace, which means regularly travelling 110km round trip at his own expense to attend his vocational education and training at TAFE.

First launched in 2014, the Bert Evans Apprentice Scholarship helps apprentices in NSW who are experiencing personal hardship, show ability for vocational education and training to lead to successful completion of their trade training, and have demonstrated a positive attitude in the workplace.

Blake’s application for the scholarship this year was supported with a glowing letter of recommendation from ACA, TAFE and his host employer.

Brian Selby, ACA Area Manager for Western NSW, commented on the scholarship, “This scholarship will support Blake in completing his apprenticeship through paying off a personal loan that he had to take out to assist with relocating, make it less stressful for him and his family when it comes to paying bills, and allow him to be more supportive to his children’s future needs.”
