What is rigging?

Rigging is the process of lifting, moving, and positioning heavy loads on construction, industrial, or infrastructure sites—using specialized equipment like cranes, hoists, slings, chains, pulleys, and winches.

Our client has years of experience in delivering fabrication and precision welding to there clients that cover residential and commercial sites. They are now looking for a motivated individual ready to learn and grow in a fast growing, dynamic and rewarding trade.

As a Rigging Trainee, you'll be working alongside experienced professionals on a variety of residential and non-residential construction sites across the Illawarra region. You’ll learn how to move, position, and secure heavy loads using cranes, hoists, and other rigging equipment which is an essential role in construction and infrastructure projects.

 

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE

  • Assisting in the rigging and lifting of structural steel and equipment

  • Learning how to safely attach loads to cranes and lifting devices

  • Guiding crane operators using signals and communication tools

  • Setting up and dismantling rigging gear like pulleys, slings, and shackles

  • Reading and interpreting lift plans and basic site drawings

  • Helping with on-site modifications and adjustments to steel components

  • Performing basic fabrication and welding tasks under supervision

  • Ensuring tools and equipment are maintained and safely stored

  • Following all workplace safety procedures and PPE requirements

 

TRAINEESHIP & JOB INFORMATION

This is a two-year traineeship duration. Over the course if the traineeship you will work full-time, 38 hours per week, Monday - Friday. You will be trained in the role by qualified tradespeople that will teach you all there is to know about the components of Rigging. Over the months you will become competent in many areas of the trade.

You will also participate in theory based training that will be delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). This will allow you to gain the trade qualification of a Certificate III in Rigging.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or New Zealand Citizen

  • Drivers licence and own vehicle (Provisional is minimum)

  • Construction White Card

  • Be committed to complete the 2-year Traineeship
