The Furnishing Manufacturing industry has an estimated workforce of approximate 60,000+ people who are mostly employed in small businesses. The sector includes key areas such as: residential furnishing (homes), commercial (corporate offices), hospitality (hotels, restaurants & more) and design (interiors).

By starting a cabinet making apprenticeship, you’ll be involved in:

  • Working with flat-panel or timber based products
  • Creating and assembling fittings
  • Examining designs, drawings and parts to determine specifications
  • Fitting hinges, drawers and shelves
  • Repairing and refurbishing furniture and fixtures

Career options available:

  • Cabinet Maker who specialises in making and assembling furniture from timber-based products.
  • Furniture Finishers who strip the old finishes from furniture and restore them through a range of methods including: polishing, glossing and more. 
  • Upholsterers (related) who take apart, repair and assemble specific furniture such as beds, chairs and sofas. This involves sewing, cutting and fitting fabrics and materials as required.
