Apprenticeship Careers Australia (ACA) are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Apprentice Chef to undertake an exciting apprenticeship opportunity with one of our well-established and reputable host employers in the aged care sector.

Role Description:
Working under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified Chefs, the Apprentice Chef will assist with the preparation of healthy, nutritious meals to residents of our aged care host employer. The Apprentice Chef will gain invaluable kitchen experience and complete a Certificate III (or IV) in Commercial Cookery.
Previous experience is not essential as we are seeking someone who has the right attitude, is dependable, reliable, with a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.

Duties include:
  • Provide high quality meals and catering services to the residents
  • Prepare and cook food products in accordance with food and safety regulations
  • Coordinate all food orders in accordance with planned menus that reflect individual needs
  • Work under Work Health and Safety Guidelines
  • Work effectively with others
  • Assist staff with food preparation for functions and events
  • Use food service equipment
  • Show social and cultural sensitivity
  • Participate in safe food handling practices
  • Has excellent time management skills

Candidate Requirements:
  • Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Willing to commit to completing a Certificate III (or IV) in Commercial Cookery
  • Demonstrate cooperation, respect, consideration, and tact in dealing with others (supervisors, peers, clients)
  • Aptitude for working and communicating effectively with participants and their families
  • Ability to prioritise requirements
Candidates must have, or be willing to obtain:
  • Current Police Check
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Flu and COVID-19 vaccination
  • Gain a fully funded Certificate III (or IV) in Commercial Cookery
  • Work close to home (Boronia location)
  • Gain valuable industry experience
  • Get paid the national training wage whilst you learn both on and off-the-job
  • Be supported and mentored along the way by your host employer and a dedicated ACA Field Officer
