Electricians are highly hands-on and are involved in day-to-day work with electrical systems. This may include installing and repairing electrical networks in industrial, domestic and commercial settings. In this role your daily activities will include: testing, repairing, installing and maintaining electrical circuits and wiring.

By starting your electrical apprenticeship you’ll also be involved in:

• Reviewing wiring diagrams and blueprints to determine sequences and methods of operation.

• Measuring and laying out installation points.

• Connecting wires and cables to terminal points and connectors.

• Diagnosing and testing wiring faults by using electronic equipment.

• Installing electrical switchboards.

• Testing circuits.

• Testing refrigeration and air-conditioning systems

• Testing, adjusting and installing electrical parts within lifts.

Career options available:

• Electronic Equipment Technician: People who are involved in installing, servicing and repairing electronic equipment across domestic industrial and commercial settings. You may work with machines including: televisions, computers, ovens, office equipment or lifts.

• Lift mechanic: Electricians who specialise in designing, building, installing, maintaining and repairing lifts and their electrical parts to ensure they function properly and safely.

• Automotive electrician: People who install, repair and maintain wiring and electronic components in vehicles.

• Cable Joiner: People who are involved in constructing, repairing and maintaining insulated power supply systems and cables in underground pipes, trenches and overhead high voltage supply systems.

• Certificate II in Electronics
