1. When you notice health issues, pay attention, speak to a medical professional and don’t ignore the red light on your health dashboard.

2. Eating healthy doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice energy. Food such as bananas, oranges, oats, mixed grain bread, honey and kidney beans are high in energy, but low in GI to help your endurance throughout the day.

3. Make an effort to take your own lunch to work. Not only will it help you to save money, you’re also more likely to eat healthier.

4. If you are suffering from anxiety or depression, the best thing you can do is talk to someone. Organisations such as Beyond Blue, Mates in Construction and Lifeline are just a phone call away.

5. Many benefits of healthy eating and exercise can be undone by poor sleep patterns.  Forming a good routine will help you to remain mentally alert and energetic at work.

6. Construction & outdoor workers are often exposed to loud noises for prolonged periods of time. Ensure you have the right protective equipment at all times and visit a local audiology clinic for a regular hearing check-up.

7. If possible, try to sit when working at lower levels. Sitting is easier on your body than squatting, placing less strain on your muscles and reduces your chance of an injury.

8. Outdoor workers can be exposed to ten times the recommended daily exposure levels of UV radiation. Make sure you slip, slop, slap whenever you are working outdoors.

9. If you are looking to build your strength, a great place to start is your core section. A strong core section will improve your lifting technique and posture when lifting heavy objects.

10. Using the wrong hand and power tools can cause injuries. Choose hand tools that are comfortable, light, balanced and require as little force as possible.
